A Show & Tell Evening with Annie Sprinkle & Elizabeth Stephens

What happens when two city girls embrace the Earth as their lover? They get real dirty! Then they marry the Earth, Sky, Sea, Rocks Sun and more in a series collaborative performance art weddings. Stephens & Sprinkle have developed “sexecology,” a new field of research where art meets theory meets practice meets activism. They make experimental theater, visual art, video, and ecosex walking tours. Stephens & Sprinkle aim to make the environmental movement more sexy, fun and diverse.


Elizabeth Stephens is an artist, a professor at UCSC, and is working on a documentary film that aims to stop mountain top removal coal mining devastation in Appalachia. Annie Sprinkle was a pivotal player in the sex positive feminist movement, has a Ph.D. in human sexuality, and has lived and worked with Elizabeth for the past 11 years.

As “ecosex” and “sexecology” are relatively new and developing concepts and communities, we have created the ecosex symposium concept–where ecosex art, meets theory, meets practice, meets activism. As our first two symposiums were so successful, we are looking to do more of them and are looking for people and organizations to co-produce and collaborate with us. These symposiums bring together a diverse group of people; artists, academics, environmental activists, sex workers, nature fetishists, GLBTQI communities, political folks, students, and many others. You can view our program and photos from Ecosex Symposium II to get an idea of what it’s like. Ecosex Symposium 1 was four hours long.  Ecosex Symposium II was a full weekend. Our goal is to do a week-long Symposium retreat.  We are open to all possibilities. Let’s talk!
